Earth Week 2008
Important note! With the unpredictability of springtime weather (ahh, nature!), in case of rain on Earth Day, all information tables will be in the bottom floor of the Johnson Center, and the closing ceremonies will be in the Food Court area of the main floor.
Mason’s celebration of Earth Week 2008 features concerts, speakers, film and hands-on opportunities to learn about and celebrate the earth, sustainability and Mason’s commitment to leadership in environmental research and action. Best of all, you not only have a chance to win prizes at each event, but attending each event enters your name once into an Earth Week prize drawing for a solar charger and iPod! The more events you attend, the better chance you have to win the grand prize! Some highlights of this year's Earth Week include:
- Earthfest, on 4/19, featuring local bands, environmental activities, and Ralph Nader
- Our first ever Bike to Mason Day with food, prizes and give-aways galore!
- Dr Tony Cortese of Second Nature speaking to students, faculty and staff about how to make Mason a sustainable university
- The Environmental Film Festival, featuring films on energy and urban development issues, with discussions facilitated by Mason professors and other local experts
- Botanical Tours of the Fairfax campus by Dr Andrea Weeks
- Native plant rescue and relocation
- Campus clean-up
- Transportation and environment information fair
- Battery and fluorescent bulb recycling, courtesy of the Environmental Health & Safety Office
- and much much more!!
