Margaret Lo, University Sustainability Director

Margaret Lo joined the Office of Sustainability in 2011. Her responsibilities include strategic planning, leadership development, budgeting, and administration for the Office as well advancing the sustainable practices on campus. Margaret compiled Mason's first Sustainability Tracking, Assessment, and Rating System report to measure the university's sustainability performance. Previous to joining Mason, Margaret led sustainability reporting and marketing campaigns for the University of Central Florida (UCF) in Orlando. At UCF, she authored UCF's first climate action plan as well as managed several energy reduction programs that were highlighted by the U.S. Department of Energy. Margaret has also worked with Fortune 500 companies to reduce their environmental impact and encourage corporate philanthropy as a corporate partnerships manager with The Nature Conservancy, one of the largest environmental non-profit organizations. Margaret received her Master in Business Administration from the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan and her Bachelors in Science in Business Management from Binghamton University, State University of New York.

Lenna Storm, Special Projects Manager

Lenna Storm was hired as Mason's first sustainability coordinator in the summer of 2007. Since she started the position, Lenna has been optimistic about the potential in the university community and believes that by taking the first difficult steps in the right direction, Mason can make a huge positive contribution to our environment. In her tenure as the Director of the Office of Sustainability, she grew the Office by four full-time staff. After 5 years of growing and leading Mason's sustainability program, she decided to move into a program and project management role, enabling Margaret to take on the strategic leadership of Mason's sustainability program.

In her new role, Lenna focuses on managing the Patriot Green Fund and the Mason Sustainability Institute. She also works on general sustainability issues as they arise, assisting with facilitation and research, to ensure no stone remains unturned in Mason's sustainability portfolio.

Lenna completed her M.S. in Environmental Science and Policy at Mason (Spring 2010). Lenna's thesis focused on valuing the non-market benefits of sustainability in higher education. Storm received her B.S. degree in Industrial Management at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh. Her career has led her through the world of information technology, process reengineering, and cooking, and in to what she hopes will be her final career: sustainability and community.

Danielle Wyman, Manager of Outreach and Community Engagement

After graduating from Mason with a degree in Conflict Analysis and Resolution in 2008, Danielle Wyman traveled to the small, rural village of Mastatal, Costa Rica to learn about and participate in organic farming. This experience took Danielle's life-long passion for the environment and turned it into a driving force for encouraging a sense of connection and stewardship with the earth. Upon her return to Virginia she presented her vision for a sustainable campus garden to Masons' Sustainability Manager at the time, Lenna Storm. Shortly after her presentation, Danielle was hired on to the Sustainability Team- part time to start and then gradually she moved into a full time position with the office.

Since beginning Mason's first-ever organic vegetable garden, Danielle has had the wonderful opportunity to assist with a wide-variety of sustainability initiatives (including but not limited to sustainable food, Climate Action Planning, Earth Week events, Permaculture Design Certification courses, PGF projects, Green Patriots and Green Office programs). Danielle's current role is managing outreach and community engagement through a combination of the programs listed above as well as general outreach. Danielle is eager to play a leading role in empowering the Mason community to constantly reach for its highest (and most sustainable) potential. She is currently enrolled in a Masters program at Mason surrounding Sustainable Food Systems. When she's not at the Office of Sustainability, she can often be found hiking around the Shenandoah Mountains, dancing, painting, cooking, or riding her bike on the W and OD trail.

Tyler Orton, Program Innovation Coordinator

Tyler Orton is the Project Innovation Coordinator at George Mason University. He is responsible for implementing projects across campus to advance The Office of Sustainability's efforts. Tyler started at Mason as an intern for the office working on bicycle and recycling projects. He was responsible for launching the Patriot Bikeshare Program and continues to work on improving bicycling conditions on and around campus in conjunction with the City of Fairfax and Fairfax County. His interests lie in waste minimization, transportation, and resource efficiency. Often times you'll find him digging through trash during a waste audit, riding a bike across campus, playing a bass/banjo, or analyzing data. Tyler is currently enrolled in the New Century College and is working towards an Integrative Studies degree with a focus on Conservation.
